Balvinder Singh Bison is recognized as a people-oriented Punjabi storyteller and thinker. He is known for his short stories that reflect the joys and sorrows of human life, social realities, and the inner emotions of individuals, often based on themes of spirituality and moral values.
He writes short stories in a simple and conversational style using the language of common people. His stories are known for expressing deep ideas in very few words. Through the form of “Nikki Kahani” (very short story), his writing has created a unique identity — these small stories often leave behind big questions in the minds of readers.
Through columns such as “Nikki Kavita”, “Second Thought”, and “3rd Degree”, he has established a thoughtful dialogue with readers.
In today’s time, when there are many highly learned writers, he considers himself a very humble writer among them. He believes that being recognized as a writer is simply the love and appreciation of his readers.
He often says — “The art of writing comes only by writing continuously, just as children inevitably spoil a few notebooks while learning.”
Recognizing his literary and spiritual contributions, the Baba Deep Singh Federation, Amritsar honored him with the Sikh Spiritual Personality Award in 2014.
His Nikki Kahani stories have been published in newspapers, magazines, and online portals in various countries.
Apart from this, he has received several honors and recognitions from different literary and social platforms for his work.
Some of his stories have also been translated into English and Nepali.
In Nepal, two stories by Balvinder Singh Bison were translated from Punjabi into Nepali and included in the book “Swai Ko Khoji”. In that book, his stories appear alongside works of renowned writers such as Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Leo Tolstoy, Munshi Premchand, and Khalil Gibran.
Balvinder Singh Bison believes that if his spiritual state is not right while writing, he prefers to avoid writing at that moment, because writing in such a state brings too much of the mind into the story.
For a writer, it is extremely important that both the mind and the heart remain calm while writing.
Readers are requested to show their love by sharing these Nikki Kahani stories so that they reach as many people as possible, and also to share their thoughts and feedback.
